Key Takeaway

  • PTE Academic is accepted for study by more than 4,000 institutions worldwide.
  • Pearson lists PTE Academic for thousands of study programmes in more than 70 countries.
  • A country on a PTE list does not mean each school, course or visa accepts the same test.
  • For study, check PTE Academic with your exact school and course.
  • For a visa, check the official page for your exact route. Some Australian and New Zealand visa or migration rules list PTE Academic. Canada uses PTE Core for Express Entry. UK routes that need a Pearson SELT use PTE Academic UKVI or PTE Home.
  • Check the full test name, overall score, skill scores, test site rules and expiry rule before you book.

Are you asking, “Which countries accept PTE?” A country list is a useful start. It is not the final answer.

Study and visa routes can require different PTE tests. A course can also set a higher score than the school’s main rule.

Start here. This guide shows where PTE is widely accepted and how to check your own case. Last reviewed: 27 October 2026.

Is PTE Accepted Around the World?

Check who accepts your PTE result and what you want to use it for.

Yes. PTE Academic can be used in many parts of the world. Pearson says more than 4,000 institutions accept it. Pearson also lists thousands of study programmes in more than 70 countries.

However, “PTE is accepted in this country” can mean different things:

  • a school accepts PTE Academic for entry;
  • one course accepts it, but another course uses a different rule;
  • a visa office accepts a certain PTE test for one route;
  • a work board accepts PTE; or
  • you can take the test in that country.

These are not the same. A local test site does not prove that your school or visa accepts PTE. Always check the group that will use your score.

What About Visas and Migration?

The country list above covers study recognition. It is not a visa-acceptance list.

How Do You Check Whether a University Accepts PTE?

Student comparing the Pearson acceptance search with a university course admissions page
Confirm PTE on both Pearson’s search and the exact course page.

Check both places.

Follow these steps before you book:

  1. Open Pearson’s Who accepts PTE? search.
  2. Search for the school’s full name and country.
  3. Open the school’s official site.
  4. Find the English requirement for your exact course and intake.
  5. Write down the complete test name, overall score and minimum score for each skill.
  6. Ask the course team for proof in writing if the page is missing or unclear.

Keep that proof.

Save the links too.

Do not stop at a general school page. Pearson says acceptance can vary by programme, even within one institution.

Pearson lets you share PTE Academic scores through myPTE or with a Score Report Code. Our guide explains how to send PTE scores to universities.

How Do You Check Whether a Visa Accepts PTE?

Applicant checking an official government visa page for the PTE test name, score and test-centre rule
Use the official page for your exact visa route, not a general country list.

Check the live rule before you pay.

Use the official visa site for your country. Search for your exact visa or migration route.

Check all of these details:

  • the complete PTE test name;
  • the minimum overall score;
  • any minimum score for Speaking, Writing, Reading or Listening;
  • whether the test must be taken at an approved test centre;
  • how long the result stays valid for that route;
  • whether old and new test score rules differ; and
  • how you must send or enter the result.

For a UK route that requires a Secure English Language Test, GOV.UK says the test must be approved and taken at an approved location. Pearson’s approved options are PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Home. The exact route decides which one you need.

For Canadian Express Entry, the IRCC page lists PTE Core. It does not list PTE Academic as the PTE option for that route.

Which PTE Acceptance Mistakes Should You Avoid?

Checklist warning against the wrong PTE test, old score rules and unchecked course requirements
A country-level yes is not enough. Check the route, test and score.

Use this list before you pay.

Avoid these common mistakes:

  • Checking only the country. Acceptance belongs to a school, course, visa route or work board.
  • Booking the wrong PTE test. Academic, Academic UKVI, Core and Home are not interchangeable.
  • Using an old blog or PDF as the final proof. Acceptance and score rules can change.
  • Checking only the overall score. Check the skill-score rules too.
  • Mixing study and visa rules. Meeting one does not prove that you meet the other.
  • Using the lowest school score for each course. The course page can set a higher score.
  • Paying before you have proof in writing. Stop and ask the group that will use your score if the rule is not clear.

Once every check is complete, you can use our PTE Exam Booking service. Review the full test name before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions About PTE Accepted Countries

Is PTE Accepted in Every Country?

No. PTE Academic is widely accepted, but no one rule covers each country, school, course and visa. Pearson lists it in more than 70 countries. You still need to check your own case.

Which Countries List PTE for Visa or Migration English Rules?

Australia and New Zealand list PTE Academic for some visa or migration English rules. When a UK route requires a SELT, use its approved PTE option. Canada uses a different PTE test for some routes, so check your exact need.

Is PTE Accepted in Canada?

Yes, but the test type matters. PTE Academic is for study when the school accepts it. PTE Core is the PTE option listed by IRCC for Express Entry.

Is PTE Accepted in the USA?

Yes, for study at many schools. Pearson reports PTE at more than 1,500 US schools. Check the exact course because rules and scores can vary.

Is PTE Academic Accepted for UK Visas?

Some UK routes require a Secure English Language Test. GOV.UK lists PTE Academic UKVI and PTE Home as Pearson SELT options. Check your route before choosing the test.

Does a University Accept the Same PTE Score for Every Course?

Not always. Pearson says acceptance can vary by programme, even within one institution. Use the exact course page.

Can I Use PTE Core for University Admission?

Do not assume so. PTE Core is made for Canadian immigration and citizenship routes. For study, check if the school asks for PTE Academic.

What Should I Do If the Official Pages Disagree?

Do not book yet. Ask the school, visa office or work board for proof in writing. Use the newest rule from the group that will decide your case.

Conclusion

PTE is accepted in many top study countries, but the country name is only your first check.

Match your goal to the exact PTE test. Then check the school, course, visa route, score and test-site rule. This short step can stop a costly wrong booking.
