PTE Reading Tips : Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer

In Reading Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer tasks, you will get a passage up to 300 words long. You have to read it and answer a multiple-choice question based on it. From a group of five to seven options, you have to select more than one correct option. 

In the PTE Academic test, you will get  2 or 3 questions based on Reading Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer format.

It can be difficult to get the answer right, as there is negative marking scheme in these questions. Negative marking means that you will get 1 mark for every correct answer, and lose 1 mark for each incorrect option selected. So, if a test taker selects two options, out of which one is right and one is wrong, they will score zero marks overall.

To select an option, you can click on it by using the left button on your mouse. If you change your mind, you can click on the left button again to deselect it. The options you select are highlighted in yellow.

Reading Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer Tips

Here’s a simple strategy to solve questions based on PTE Reading Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer format:

Step 1

You must read the question carefully.

     

Step 2

Go through the options and look for key words and phrases, or words that have been repeated often.

Step 3 

  

Now quickly go through the passage, and find the sections of the text which contains these key words, phrases, or their synonyms.

Step 4

Once you have found these sections that contain the above mentioned words, you should check whether the information given in an option states the same thing as the passage or has completely different information. If the option is different from the text, you can skip it.

In the Reading section of the PTE Academic test, you will get  2 or 3 questions based on Reading Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer task.
