The task is to summarize 300 words written text displayed on the screen in 10 minutes with a sentence of no more than 75 words long. Tips on how to answer written text
Learn keyword and key phrases
This is important for all the sections of the PTE Academics. Keywords are the important words that give the story or content its meaning. Also, you can use the synonyms of these words easily when paraphrasing. It will help you with summarizing i.e. all the summaries required in the examination. Moreover, keywords will help you in retell the lecture and repeat the lecture. So it is important to learn how to identify these words.
Use complex and compound sentences
A complex sentence is a sentence with at least one subordinate clause and an independent clause. While a compound sentence means a sentence that has two independent clauses. These type of sentences give meaning and depth to your writing making summarizing simpler
Understand the passage
It is important to read the passage and to understand it before attempting to write the summary. Read it more than once if you have to identify important points. Don’t skim and scam through the passage then feel like you are ready to answer the question. This will also make you miss important points.

During preparation, practice summarizing
It is important for the test taker to learn all the traits necessary to attempt these question. Learn keywords, practice with as many summaries as possible. The more you practice the better you will get at summarizing and let’s not forget that summarizing is also required in listening section as well and for enabling skills. Dedicating your time to learn to summarize improves other sections as well.
Example
‘Just-in-Time’ is a method of manufacturing which aims to minimize production time, production costs and the amount of stock held in the factory. Raw materials and suppliers arrive at the factory as they are required and consequently there is very little stock sitting idle at any one time. Each stage of the production process finishes just before the next stage is due to commence and therefore the lead-time is significantly reduced. With a ‘just-in-time’ production system, the level of production is related to the demands for the output (i.e. the number of orders) rather than simply producing finished goods and waiting for orders. This means that raw material and stock only need to be ordered from suppliers as required.
Answer
Just-in-time method of manufacturing reduces production time and production costs which in turn leads to minimizing stored raw materials and stocks, moreover, just-in-time relate production to demands by manufacturing goods that are proportional to orders instead of producing goods to wait for orders.
